Biography
At various points during my childhood I wanted to be a veterinarian, a professional photographer, and a ballerina. None of those "dreams" ever stuck, however, because I never really felt that strongly about any of them. I liked animals, but not taking care of them. I liked looking at the pictures in National Geographic, but had no real artistic ability. I had danced all my life, but as I got older, replaced more and more classes I had been taking with classes I was teaching.
Then one day, during my junior year of high school, I was sitting with some friends in study hall. We had just come from our pre-calculus class and I was re-explaining what we had just learned in class that day. One of my friends turned to me and said "You should be a math teacher when you grow up." And for the first time, I had a career path that not only made sense, but that I was genuinely excited about.
I went on to major in Mathematics Education at Brigham Young University, completing my student teaching at Spanish Fork Junior High. I then moved across the country so my husband could attend Boston University School of Law, and I began teaching at a public high school south of Boston.
Ten years, four kids, and a cross-country move later, I'm back in Utah. However, instead of getting back into the classroom, I'm looking to continue my math teaching on a more individualized basis.
